Learning Designer / Instructional Designer.


The Role:

We currently have a number of opportunities for people with experience in designing learning in the blended and online modes at several universities. We are looking for experienced and proactive Learning Designers to support the design, development, and implementation of innovative curricula and assessments for courses at Universities. The role will involve working closely with academic staff to determine the pedagogy, design and development of materials and techniques for use in electronic learning and teaching across each course. The successful candidate will be highly passionate about education, have experience producing digital educational materials, have strong skills in structuring curriculum, and work well within a cross-functional team. This is a hands-on role developing innovative, engaging learning experiences for learners at a University level. Ideally, you will have a postgraduate qualification in education and experience in working with academics to build unique learning experiences. You will have the ability to build effective courses from end to end.


  • Design and develop effective e-learning resources and activities for use in a range of courses in conjunction with the Lead Learning Designer.
  • Provide expert, customer-focussed advice in the context of designing effective eLearning courses.
  • Contribute to curriculum review processes, including the development and use of electronic tools in curriculum mapping and the design of courses.
  • Work independently or in a distributed team using a variety of collaboration tools;
  • Liaise with and assist teaching staff to develop strategies to introduce e-learning into courses and curricula, and to implement innovative online learning and teaching initiatives to enhance students' learning experience.
  • Participate fully in all communications in dealing with stakeholders and your colleagues at Curio.

Selection Criteria:

  • University degree preferably in Education with at least two to three years’ experience working in a higher education/University learning and teaching environment.
  • An understanding of learning theories, pedagogical practices and their relationship to emerging educational technologies;
  • Demonstrated capacity to interact with and critically evaluate new and emerging e-learning technologies, and identify avenues to innovation and improvement in current teaching and learning practices;
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and developing e-learning content;
  • Demonstrated experience in the use and integration of educational technologies and media in curriculum design and digital content/resources, including web-based learning management systems;
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and autonomy;
  • High-level problem-solving skills and an ability to be adaptive and innovative in developing and pursuing administrative and educational technological solutions;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and external stakeholders at all levels, and the ability to effectively explain complex educational ideas.
